4 Ideas for a Christmas Tablescape

4 Ideas for a Christmas Tablescape

Hi, Friends!

Today I am sharing with you how I create 4 beautiful Christmas tablescapes in Red, Gold, Pink and Mix of Pink and Purple colorway.

Christmas is right around the corner and it's a perfect time to start thinking about the decorations,  checking out your storage and picking out the theme for this year. By the time you start picking and wrapping gifts, preparing the meals, it can be to late to start decorating. That's why I encourage you to start thinking about it earlier.

In this guide I'll be sharing how to decorate a Christmas table using table linens, fruits, diy decorations and items that you might already have in your home.

Step 1. Pick Your Colorway

Think about the colorway that most reflects your mood or a theme that you chose for this year. Maybe that the classic red. Green, gold? Maybe more cheerful and happy pinks, oranges or yellows.

Step 2. Start with a base - Tablecloth

If you have the colors picked, think about where you want to accentuate them. Whether you want it to be the main color or just an accent. Than pick out your base layer - a tablecloth.

Tip: This year I chose classic blue and white linens and changed the accent color - I picked gold for supper, but with a quick change to red I could transform the look for a tea party.

Step 3: Frame for your plates

Before you start placing your tableware think about the frame for your plates. Picking out the right placemat can really elevate your tablescape. You can choose contrasting texture like seagrass or jute table mats or more formal cloth placemats like Cornflower Garland Placemats

Step 4 : Layer Your Tableware

Now it's time for your tableware. Think about the occasion - is it a Christmas Eve Dinner or a lazy afternoon Holiday tea party? I prepaired my gold christmas tablescape for a formal Supper - that's why I used my Royal Copenchagen dinner plates, wine glasses and suitable cutlery.

Step 5: Choose Your Napkins

No Formal Table settings can go without the napkins. They're very important. You can use all sort of creative ways to fold them, shown in my blog 8 Simple Ways To Fold a Napkins easy to learn and fast if you don't have much time to set the table, yet still want to make an impression. Use napkin rings and simply tie them with bows to accent the color scheme you've chosen.

Step 6: Build a Centerpiece

It's time to pick out your centerpiece - it can be as simple as placing some fruit or muffins on the platter, then adding greenery in between. Or you can arrange a beautiful bouquet. You can get some inspiration from my video, where I've shown you how I created the  Spring Flower Centerpiece.

Step 7: Create ambiance

When the days are short and dark, we start craving more light in our lives, it's when candles and fairy lights come to the rescue. You can use them as your centerpiece and vary their heights. Candles are a real helper when it comes to holiday decorating, and you can use them to accent your colorway.

Step 8: Add festive touches.

Now you can really use your imagination and add all the festive touches you want. You can include old ornaments from your childhood or other hairlooms that are dear to you.  For the gold tone tablescape I decided to use some diy christmas trees that I made from old books a few years before, some ornaments, acorns and pinecones that I spray painted earlier.

Now this is the general rule for creating a beautiful Christmas tablescape. You can easily transform this tablescape for a tea party if you have one in plan.

You can see how I transformed this tablescape for a tea party.

  • Napkins - I fliped the napkins from the dinner napkins to the tea napkins and change the cocktail napkins as well.
  • Bows - from the golds to the reds - I changed the bows from elegant to more traditional.

TIP: Add small ornaments to the bows or simply place the decorations on the napkins - that way you can personalize each place setting. Guests can take the ornaments home and make it a part of their christmas tree.

  • Swipe out the glasses for tea cups
  • Change the color of the candles
  • Choose different ornaments

I stick to these rules while creating pink and purple tablescape too.

Maybe one of my tablescapes will inspire you this season. I would love to see what you came up with. Please tag me on pintrest and don't forget to follow me to see my next holiday decor inspiration.

Wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.
